Wind Energy Taps 
For wind turbine component machining

We call our new high-performance, large-sized HSS-E-PM taps Wind Energy Taps because they are engineered specifically for machining some of the most important wind turbine components like hubs, rings, and gearbox housings. These taps will increase overall productivity and let you stay current with the rapid increase in demand for these types of components.
We designed these wind energy taps for conventional non-rigid and CNC-synchronous tapping machines. An extra-long version was designed to reach the longer overhangs common to these turbine components. The precision h6 shanks of these taps enable their use in either conventional tap holders with square drive or in precision round toolholders.
In a recent case study, T650 HSS-E-PM taps outperformed the competitive tap by tapping more than 3X more holes (2,016 holes, competitor vs. 7,056, Kennametal T650 tap), while running at the same speed as the competitive tap.
What does this mean for you? Three styles to choose from:
- T620 LH spiral flute - through-hole tapping, pushes chips ahead for free tapping on long-chipping material
- T630 RH spiral flute - blind-hole tapping; preferred for vertical tapping applications; internal coolant standard (see T631)
- T650 RH spiral flute - blind-hole tapping; preferred for horizontal tapping applications; internal coolant standard (see T651)
- DIN 376 and extra-long versions available on all three styles
